We’re Coming to Get You

$199.00

We’re Coming to Get You is part of my Pandemic Birds series. It was inspired by the rampant fear we experienced before the COVID vaccine became available. There is a Morse Code message embedded in the stitching. I wrote a blog post about this series which you can read here.

I used a raw-edge collage technique with machine and hand embroidery. The entire piece was quilted by hand using a Kantha quilting style. The piece is embroidered with variegated Perle cotton thread.

I create all my work in my studio overlooking the Puget Sound on Whidbey Island. All designs are original and are copyrighted by me. My studio is smoke-free and pet-free.

Materials used: up-cycled designer linens, hand-dyed cottons, Valdani perle cotton thread
Hanging device: wood slat attached to the upper back lining
Year created: 2021

Dimensions
12.5x15”

Care: Avoid hanging in direct sunlight. To remove dust, brush lightly with a lint roller.

Working on the rabbit story collage I started a few months ago. Background is stitched and now I’m adding texture and detail to the rabbit.

There’s a story behind this rabbit and how her family came to live in Langley and I’m telling it. Work in progress.

Homework for a workshop with @elinnoble. I’m working on improving my shibori skills. Right now though, it looks like a rats nest—or some abstract art.
